The August voting contest has come to an end, and it's time to announce the winners! Here's a quick recap on how the prize distribution system works:
The top 3 monthly voters get in-game trophies (on both survival and creative) that they can cherish for years to come, along with a podium display at the hub for the next month.
Those with at least 200 votes will receive 7,500 rupies on survival.
Those with at least 150 votes will receive 5,000 rupies on survival.
Those with at least 100 votes will receive 2,500 rupies on survival.
Those with at least 50 votes will receive 1,500 rupies on survival.

Only one server at a time will be down. We will likely start with whichever server (Creative or Survival) which has the least players online at the time when the maintenance window begins. Vanilla+ should be online the entire time, it doesn't require any maintenance.

We're having our first Creative contests all day this Saturday! As long as enough players are online contests will be held. There will be group vs. group and player vs. player contests. The rules for now are as follows:
Follow all of the servers other rules
You will be put up against someone at the most two ranks from you
Build with the theme
Do not copy other's builds or recreate past builds block for block
Don't grief the other team's build (duh)
Don't help out with the build if you are not on the team or not the individual participating
Be sportsmanly
The theme for this first contest is going to be everyone's favorite: Medieval
There will be team builds and player vs. player builds. The team builds will be a minimum of an hour and the player vs. player builds will be a maximum of an hour. Yoyojoel will most likely be in charge of the most of the contesting.

Something we haven't done much here on ShadeCrest is have periodic planned outage periods where the admins can do extended maintenance. I'd like to suggest that we start doing that. There are several things we can only do when the server is down completely. More details on what we plan on doing during this time but the purpose of this post is to ask:
When do you think it's ok to have an extended maintenance window?
Keep in mind we can't just say Tuesday at 2:00am to 8:00am (like MMOs for example) because let's be honest the majority of the staff is in the US and we have lives, jobs, and such and can't be doing hardcore maintenance in the middle of our sleeping hours.
One of these things is doing a database cleanup activity which I've been wanting to do for some time. Survival - Rent Management plugin ezeiger92 and I have been working on a rent management plugin that will allow you to purchase, list, get info on, pay, and in general manage the things you are renting from the Survival spawn (lots and chests). The feature set is about half done, focusing on the features players will need first and worried more about what happens when rent isn't paid later. We will be rolling it out as soon as people can claim initial items, pay, and maintain their payments. I plan on also building a web UI for this, showing a kind of map of spawn's plots, who has what lots / chests and how long they have till their lots expire.
