Hi, I've been playing tekkit/ftb lately. And I noticed a major bug.

All I have to say is...

DISABLE BLACKHOLE CHESTS. THEY CORRUPTED MY WORLD.

I feel a lot better now.

I'm really kind of apprehensive toward the Gregtech expansion of IC2 but I guess I'll give it a try

I don't really understand Gregtech what so ever. Especially why you have to macerate everything. I don't get that.

Alot of the new blocks are awesome, but some of them don't resemble IC2 completely. You would think that the maker of gregtech would seemlessly merge the textures of his mod with IC2. As far as the recipes go, they are so damn expensive, but with a few blocks such as the fusion reactor, or matter fabricator, I understand.

Would this be the new VIP server or what?
Or would it be just like a 3rd official shadecrest server?

I think I would be able to set up permissions pretty easily for the server. However, there is somewhat of a flaw in how the makers of FTB implemented it. It runs on Forge. Forge is a great platform for a minecraft server, and has much fewer flaws than Bukkit. Unfortunately, this means that none of the plugins that the server currently uses will be compatible with it. This includes administration plugins such as hawkeye, World Edit, and bPermissions. The people who develop Forge and FTB are planning to port a few important plugins like PermissionsEX, but the port could take more than a month. I'm going to see if i can jury-rig a few important plugins into Forge, but i don't think that's gonna happen because i know next to nothing about Forge and it appears to be a big process even for the experts. In my opinion, a very thorough whitelist will need to be implemented to keep the server from quite literally blowing up. Only players trusted on the other servers should be let on, or, as much as i hate to say it, it may be a smart idea to make it a vip server.
TL,DR: Since FTB is built on Forge, it currently lacks proper admin, permission and block-logging features. It would be a good idea to use a thorough whitelist until proper administration tools are created.

    agreed!

probably already been said but somebody needs to go through just about everything in the game and search for exploits to "block"...

So would this be like the old tekkit server? I can mess with the configs and figure out what breaks everything ^^

Feed the beast feels much more balanced than tekkit ever was, and the extra biomes are amazing! That is all. haha

I have done a little bit of research on my own and have messed around with a server on my laptop too. Black hole chest definitely need to be disabled as they can corrupt an entire world save. Ender chests (from the mod) can also cause both the client and server to crash if an item is shift clicked out of them. These are easily disabled by changing their values to zero. A more major glitch is an exploit with rolling machines. Using a chest, wooden pipe, lever, and a rolling machine, one can very easily duplicate items. This creates a problem as rolling machines are rather essential due to Gregtech. The best fix would be to go into the gregtech config and make MMIngotOnlyRollingMachine=false. this way the mixed metal ingots can be crafted the normal way and the rolling machine's id can be set to zero. Also, you would have to go into the railcraft config and change recipes.track.vanilla to equal true. this allows the tracks to be made without the rolling machine. I will keep looking for more bugs or exploits and post them if i find them.
EDIT: I'm currently in the process of compiling a list of important configs for the server. This includes the configs that decrease the amount of resources that the server uses (reduces lag). I will also try to include ones that drastically change how a base mod works (like the gregtech recipes)

stuff like this is good to know... max, if you can set up a 'test' server i agree that it is a good idea to check which items will corrupt the world, and which systems will do things like duplicate etc. ill be searching the reddits and the youtubes for things like this and will post them on this tread so we know what needs to be nerfed.

A separate forum section would be nice. i might be able to put together a guide, depending on if i have time.

understood. I think a section for reporting bugs is a good idea, as well as a general discussion area (and i'll try to use less parentheses :) )

I think we can wait on a separate forum until the server is established. As for a guide, I can try to throw together a couple of website links, but from how I've seen youtubers playing it the "not too many items" plugin is almost like a guide inside the game.
