The making of goodbye posts without leaving needs to stop, and there needs to be a punishment for it!

Lately there have been a few unnecessary goodbye posts. If the goodbye post is not going to be the last discussion you are in on the forums, and is not made on the last day you are on the server, for at least a few months, then don't make it! You can just say in game, or even in the shout box "hey, I am going be gone for a while, not sure how long, could be a week, maybe longer." Do not post a goodbye thread! That area of the forums is not there for you to get more attention.

A punishment needs to be assigned to this, preferably soon, because I, and I am sure others, are getting sick and tired of this bull...

Yeah... I agree. It's an interesting situation to say the least.

I think he covered himself with the "at least a few months" part Sharq.

I'm not going to get specific, just look at his forum activity after he made his goodbye thread.

In the goodbye section, it says "whether temporary or permanent"
    I dunno. Ignore me

Just delete the threads of people that haven't left. While unnecessary and a bit annoying, it's not that big deal to handle. Remove the threads, advise people not to post unless they will be gone for an extended period of time or never coming back.

Sounds simple enough. Thanks for volunteering! :D

Seriously though if it's not too much trouble, I say have at it. Moderators can now soft delete threads. If you accidentally delete something you need undeleted, any Admins can undelete any soft deleted threads.

Added this to the stickie on the top of the goodbye thread:
5: Do not post here if you're only going to be gone a short period of time
6: Do not use this forum as a way to cry for attention

i agree i am a breaker of this rule in the past, dosnt mean i cant see that what i did was wrong...

Edit, as i dont want to make a multi post:

Just because someone has broken a rule, does not mean he or she is against the rule being in place. You don't have to not understand a rule to have broken it.

I myself have left without a goodbye post, mostly because I will return in the future. I've also made like 3-4 goodbye posts without leaving for more than 3 weeks. I see no reason to not punish people for effectively lying to everyone, and if the person truly wants to leave for personal reasons, a punishment for returning would help them accomplish that.

P.S. Totally unrelated: Hez. What you're doing. Stop it.

Punishing people for goodbye threads? Ok, I get it. Some of those threads are annoying and pointless, but punishing people for posting them is going way too far. I think it is often forgotten that we are a minecraft community.

I wouldn't necessarily support the idea of "punishing" them. Just when people are obviously just being attention whores, delete their threads and get them to stop. Very simple moderation.

I'd only agree with taking disciplinary action in the event that a person is posting a certain number of times within a specific time frame. Say... 1-2 posts within 2 months, not a big deal. 3-5 within 2 months, talk to the member. Any more than and further action may be taken.

I will be working on some new systems to put into place for dealing with people who abuse certain aspects of the forums. How to use those systems will be part of the general code of conduct I'm working on for staff and enforcement guide. Ex. One of the ideas I've had is utilize the warning system that exists on the forum today. I believe I can setup different things like flat out removing their ability to post after a certain number of warnings. Then we just need to come up with a practice on what dictates a warning and moderate accordingly. Again, basic internet conduct moderation stuff that has never been properly implemented here at ShadeCrest.
