1.8/1.9, New maps, and railways!

    Yes i am bringing this back up again. I have been doing some thinking about the new 1.8/1.9 maps and updates. Here is my overall view of all this stuff. I think there should be one main map, we can call this spawn-map, this is where everyone will spawn to begin with. The zone in the world will be very small so people cant get out of the spawn. The only way out of this world is by taking portals, these portals will take you to other worlds such as, Nether, Pvp-world, Peaceful-world, Mining-world, Creative-world. Each of these worlds will have their own spawn.

    As far as the railways go... thats a whole new problem.The way i was setting up the railways before was not very efficient, they went directly from the spawn to one town. That means i would have to make a track for every town. I have come up with a slightly better solution. We could have a huge square that would be the railway and then have "checkpoints" or places where people can get off along the way. This would still attach to the spawn but it would go around the map rather than hitting every town specifically. Idk yet i just think there are to many growing towns and i would have to fill the world with railways in order to cover them all.

    If anyone has suggestions or anything they think may be wrong with this setup PLEASE tell me! I like constructive criticism!

    Also if you want to you can go to creative and look at the new spawn. its at the top of the live map. Check it out and tell me what i need to add. Its not done yet but i could use some more ideas on buildings that the whole community can use.

    Railroads are not the end all solution. With the coming of ocean biomes, the necessity of canals and other water-based transit systems are going to be much more important. Therefore, I recommend a combination of water and rails.
    However, as far as mine tracks go, a large square of a main rail line won't work. You can't expect all towns to develop solely around a certain set of railroads, the ones that don't will be left out of all people traffic, and its going to be am miserably long ride if you miss your stop, or you're the one town on the opposite side of the rail line as the spawn city.
    Frankly, I think a better choice would be to create a large cross, with the map spawn in the center. From there create smaller substations at different distances where the main line branches off. This way we aren't limited in where our towns can be, traffic isn't limited to one direction around the track, and it'll sure look a lot better.
    The important thing about this setup though is the use of a pair of rails for each line of track, and each direction controlled by detector rails powering boosters, thus preventing collisions. The lines would need to be regioned and protected to prevent griefing and unauthorized modifications.

    Ah i see what your saying, the tracks can be above the surface that way they can go over the ocean biomes and people can see them. Similar to the way they look right now. As far as the setup goes i like that idea, people can take the north,south,east or west veins and then decide where they want to get off based on that main railway. also we can get towns to build roads to the main railway veins that way when people get off they know where to go.

    The new spawn goes from bedrock to sky so I dint want to put it in a world besause it would look "odd" but I guess I could surround it in bedrock and make a portal out of it to the same world.

    The railway would give the server an old timey feel to it and give people another form of travel rather than typing in a command and tp to where u want to go.

    Alsoooo, Its cheaper. Especially for the pvp world, where moving from town to town by rail is much more efficient of money than using their /town spawn

    he worked really hard on those rail roads, they give the server a old timey feel. They just make the server look better. I use them sometimes?

    There was a rail line to exile from arcadia (for raids) when it was a town, and that was as smooth and as quick as idk what. So yes, rail lines will be used.

    I think railways will be used on pvp side I thought we where removing the /home command and have everyone spawn at town spawn. If we are the railways will be essential for raids

    I worked really hard on the rail line we built the supports by hand :p

    But whats the plan for /home command, and spawns in new pvp side?

    Will we only be able to respawn at our town?

    will /home be removed for pvp side

    Will Any other warps be allowed?

    If the warps are nonfunctional, then I must whole-heartedly disagree with you max. Rails and boat canals are significantly faster than traveling by foot. Bugginess aside, boats are by far the fastest m method of travel, hands down, as I recall by like 4x faster than on foot. Minecarts follow close in second at like 3x faster, but are more functional than boats, but still to say that such a transit system would go unused is fairly short sighted in my opinion.
    However, I am not saying worldedit should be used to accomplish this task. Since this is for the benefit of the players, it should be a coordinated effort on their parts. I think the areas involved should be protected from griefing, but not simply built by the server.

    people used my canal alot... but boat travel is buggy... :) but i agree with max, if you want easy transport, build it with your towns... not admin based... i built the entire canal by hand, no admin support what so ever, no items spawned or jack... i got all the cobble, learnt how the water flowed, filled that dang canal and dug the excess gravel out...

    it took a long time, but i did it... with a little help from others...

    Build your own rail lines.... iron is abundant! i have over 7000 ingots or so now, buy them and use them!

    i just think that its a "community" thing. Like the mall, coliseum, or library. People never use the library but we still have it cause it looks nice. I really want things that will make the server more open to peoples needs. Sure lets say only a few people use it... thats still more people using it than before. I guess what i'm trying to say is that we will never know how it will affect people until we actually build it and test it out. If worst comes to worst and no one uses it then i can just take it down and we will be where we are now... idk if this makes sense...

    Why don't you guys make a super small world with the railroads to test it, and see how people like it? That way if it is rejected you can just delete the world. This is if you get the OK from Max to test it out.

    :) Rails and Canals dont realy offer much atm becouse of all warps. But still one thing they offer atleast to me is ideas. The Sides of the railways are not very "over" built but i still like traveling with them to get ideas when bored :) Last week i think i used Arcadia -> Town spawn Rail two times ( Its not much but if every one would do so it would be alot )

    Also about Railways, WTF why isnt the railway station open ? Fences in front to not let people to use it? It realy sucks to be honest... Need to jump to rails from mountains to get there :(
    Then also i tried to use Pyro's Canal, but then in midle of my way on his canal there was a hole! around 10 blocks seemed to just be missing...

    So how are we suposed to use railroads & canals, when Railstation is being closed by fences and canal is being cut half ?



    Also i think we should decrease the amount of warps people can set atm as thanks to /home set being free it offers way to get mining world resourses sooo easily :)

    Like I said before, railroads and canals will only get use if warps and /home is/are removed. Otherwise, like its been said, they will get no use due to how long it takes to traverse them versus paying 10 or so rupies for instantaneous travel.

    Arcadia will always have railways just cause I like them :) and any town near by that are allies of course :)
