Today on the server we encountered one of they grey areas of the ShadeCrest Rules, which mods are allowed.

It was sparked when one of the guests asked if x-ray mods are allowed, to which I replied by default no. They then argued as to why? it wasn't affecting anything, and it didn't give them an unfair advantage.

So here's the topic of the thread, which mods do we allow people to use? I'm of the thought that ones that alter how the game looks (Shader mods, opitifine, etc) are allowed, but ones that alter gameplay mechanics (x-rays and the like) are banned.

I maintain my opinion based on a child that I know, he plays with x-ray mods and the like because his brother does and he now does not perceive anything wrong with it and uses it on most servers that I've seen him go on.

This thread is completely pointless. There really is no banned mod on creative server. Max has covered this before. He's even okay with nodus(minus the use for griefing) since it's a creative server, not a survival server. -_-

If you ask me, for the creative server, there should be very little restrictions as to which mods are allowed. Graphics alterations, like you mentioned, should obviously be allowed. But besides that, as long as it's not something created for malicious intent, such as block spammers, chat spammers, or auto-builders, if a player, for whatever reason, wants to view a creative server from an x-ray view, I don't think it makes much of a difference.

Moreover instead of wasting time over what pointless mods used for survival should be banned, there should be a recommended thread for mods that would actually help you build. Like the voxelmodpack for example.

I didn't see when Max covered it sorry.

Evidently the guest came to the wrong person about it then.

Not to shoot you down, but it's kind of common sense that an xray mod is pointless on a creative server and doesn't need any restriction...

That's fine, not the first time my opinion's gone against the masses (Or common sense for that matter). I just discourage the usage of mods like that anyway, because I prefer not to see people become dependent on them.

So in other words, instead of using a fork/knive, we should just use our hands. Yeah, ok. I'm locking this thread... >_>

I know, you locked the thread but for Legend's sake I do want to add one last note.

Personally, I agree with Legend that I hate to see xray mods encouraged or any like that because of how misused they are on survival servers. (I've been fighting kids with mods who just flat couldn't see a thing wrong with them.. even on the survival server for over a year.) I see his point.

That being said it has nothing to do with the creative server as you say. I just want to assure Legend that I saw where he was coming from. It's the principle of the thing. Still Quiet is right about not needing to worry about it here.
