Maybe we should start advertising our server.

I would love to see a full server again.
Since the launch of shadecrest 2.0 the numbers have been stagnating. The guests the have joined usually quit because of it being too difficult. People that were completely for the reset came on in the beginning, but then just disappeared afterwards because of the difficulty. A good example of this would be Heathqr. Then those that were against it, obviously never got on again, such as North_Korean.

We could do this by making more videos of the server, and streaming on twitch.tv like quietsea is beginning to do.
Or maybe max could pay for ads or something idk.

i agree. the main body of players is in one town, so if any others form it mean's that there will be only 10-20 players per town, which isnt much to go off of. I think we all need to try and vote, definately help the guests, and just advertise where ever and when ever possible :D

Our main body of players comes from the lists that our server is posted on, and people find servers in order of rank. Which means, everyone needs to vote, everyday. That's the first step.

Another thing, minecraft/minecraft servers are HUGE on youtube right now, especially those with a twist such as hardcore survival. People enjoy watching others undertake unique challenges, and they'll definitely want to join in. If someone can create a series, which will essentially require the ability to commentate, along with a free screen recording software and a mic, since you're already doing the playing part on your own, I think our population would skyrocket. Speaking of youtube, the server's had a channel of its own sitting around for a while now rarely being used. It's not like the server is lacking interesting events, they simply need to be made into videos. If we create some sort of system where people can send in their own videos, such as raids, for consideration on the channel, that would increase rates, too.

Ads help, but they require money. To sum this up, the players themselves have the largest part in the popularity of the server. Vote everyday, tell your friends, post on forums, make videos, etc. Things like this can really go far.

This seems bad so I am with you on this. I am building the City of Portal and I need residents. I think that it would be a good idea to advertise the server on different sites.

    LOL PLEASE READ THIS.
Over the summer, I did a lot of work trying to get the creative server out there. I had the SHADECREST signature on my minecraftforum.net account and got others to do the same. This helped the server tremendously. If you guys are seriously interested in expanding the server, invest some time in posting in other threads on the minecraft forum, whether it's commenting on a build, giving advice, talking about bugs, screenshots, WHATEVER! It will seriously help the server. It's one of the best sources of free advertisement. Other than that, it's all about propagating word about our server all over the minecraft community (reddit, minecraftforum.net, planet minecraft, youtube, twitch.tv, voting for the server, etc).

And yes! Streaming will help us a lot as well (only if you have good specs on your computer, but it is okay if you don't, you can still help the server in other ways too).

Why you guys don't vote in the first place perplexes me.

    1000 rupies a day x 30 days per month + 5000 rupies for being in top 5.

35000 rupies, enough money for a town and to have a decent bank, and just at the cost of 10-15 minutes of voting a day.

I think the best way to advertise a server is to have an admin or someone with a decent computer record a let's play on the server from scratch. One example of this being successful is the Toastedcraft server.

I just read the servercon, and that sounds like a really cool idea. I don't know who would run the booth, but if we did it, we'd have make it critical to get a good booth right off the bat, and have someone (probably max) set up the booth and what not.

    I already told max, I think he's reserved a booth already ;)

Does shadecrest have a reddit page? That would probably help if we all commented.

you mean reddit account? no, that wouldn't help either, using reddit for advertising is frowned upon, if you make a post that looks like it is just for advertising it will get down voted to hell

I've seen a few posts work well for a server there, because they're not in your face advertising. This guy just documented him getting started up on a hardcore pvp faction server with an album on imgur, and had the server IP as the description on the last image.

It'd be a lot easier to get some free advertising for creative on reddit. We have so many top builds that we could post, and then just mention the server in the comments when someone asks

That would work perfectly. I just have to make a reddit account first..

yeah and i pressed enter to go to the next line but it posted, then i went to post something else and it happened again XD

  18. Quietsea's idea is a good one, nicely done.

Since Reddit has been brought up, here is my take on it:

I think we need to avoid blatant "Come check out our server" stuff. As sharqman said, people hate it and its annoying.
Rather, it is a matter of posting good and interesting content and having people want to know what server it is, and you can tell them that way.

I posted a random comment in a thread about floating trees saying something like "My server really frowns upon people leaving floating trees, it's great". A couple of people thought that was pretty neat and asked what server so I told them.
I also told them that if they do have a visit, mention to me that they were the people from reddit and i'll help them get started. So far I have had two people talk to me about in game and they both seemed to be nice people.

Also posted up one of my creative builds and that got some attention, same story as before.

Also I cant ever vote because all the voting websites record your IP rather than username voted with

  19. Hah, well I guess based on my logic, bad posts wont be interesting enough to make strangers curious and ask what server it is?

    Your signature is ridiculously big.
