Feel the Flavour - My Introduction

Discussion in 'Introductions' started by salmon_flavour, Sep 7, 2012.

  1. I have spent my fair share of time on the Server without any formal introduction, so here goes. Hope you all find it somewhat informative and feel free to ask any questions and make witty remarks. This is actually the first time I have ever sat down and written a blurb about myself, so this doubles as a useful exercise for myself.

    Education.
I graduated from school in 2009 and began studying Environmental Planning at University. I kept at this for a year before transferring to Urban and Regional Planning at a rival University. Urban Planning, for those who don't know, is in basic terms the management of development, services and policy that exist in and govern metropolitan and rural areas. We work with and design city plans, planning schemes and legislation to guide cities into sustainable futures. In a nutshell it is "making places better". It has close ties to politicts and to a certain extent law.
I hope to one day get into the Strategic Planning field where I will be developing planning schemes and policy... but who knows I may end up in Development Assessment, Transport and infrastructure...list of possibilities goes on.
It is this sort of industry: (but only if you're bad at your job).

I worked at coles (equivalent of wallmart) in the Fruit and Veggie section for about three years during school. This was the most cruisy job I have ever had and I regret leaving and moving into my second industry; hospitality.
After coles I worked for about a year and a half in a restaurant/bar in 'fortitude valley' which is the major nightlife scene in Brisbane. Waiting 40people at a time was certainly a shock to the system after working at cruisy ol coles for so long, and i'll be honest, it took MONTHS to fully adjust to the fast paced work style I had to adopt in the restaurant. I saw a whole range of people come in too, being such a classy area there was ferrari and bentley sightings daily, and I got to meet some classy individuals, one being Nick Cave, A few football stars, some ridiculously rich business owners and tiny italian/greek people. In the last six months I slowly left the restaurant floor and ended up in the bar about 90% of the time. Bar was awesome, it was usually pretty chill, and I got to manage myself. When in the bar you had a sense of control and authority, it was your space to manage how you wished. Another staff member comes into the bar to start making their own tables order? Get out, b*tch! Sometimes it was hectic though and me and one other person would be pumping out soft drinks, spirits, fresh juices, teas, wines and cocktails for the entire restaurant and bar.

In the end, management was the downfall, I couldn't get any time off ever, and they were putting me on for times I hadn't agreed to. After my resignation notice I spent the next two weeks teaching the newbies how to run bar and then I was out of there. Occasionally I go back to eat because the food is amazing, and last time I went back there was only two people out of the original 15 or so I worked with. I've only been gone about 8 months... Bad management sucks.

So currently I am pretty much unemployed. I get sporadic work in a Geographical Information Systems and Mapping office but this isn't enough to live off.

    About me:

I'm a bit of an adrenaline junkie, love skiing, mountain biking, go karting... going fast pretty much sums it up.
As some of you know, mountain biking is my passion. I'm not even that good at it considering how much I do it, but damn it is fun. My dream is to go to whistler alike every other Australian Mountain Biker. It is our 'mecca' so to speak.
Currently I am quite literally out of riding friends, I ride with three other guys. First guy did a tendon in his shoulder a few months ago, and at the State Championships DH race a couple of weeks ago, second guy broke his collar bone, and third guy goddamn broke his back! Brutal stuff.

    Random facts:
    1. My dream car will be a car of class, a car that is subtle, unique, and smexy.
    2. Girlfriend? Check. Smexy? Check.
    3. I play a bit of piano, once upon a time I got to the fifth piano grade when I took lessons.
    4. When I get excited I trip over my words.
    5. I can mono really well on scooters, like just go forever (the toy ones not motorized). Why? I just can, woo me!
