every so often, scientists around the world surpise the general public... to the media these events are given one or two days run, they sesationalize the event and then move on... the scientific community continues to work on them long after the media report. Yesterday, curiosity touched down on mars. while incredible in its own right, a long forgotten by the media man mad device caught it all on digital "film". the years old mars orbiter, once a headliner in itself, took High Resolution photos of the event after weeks of time spent redoing calculations and timing, and caught one of the most amazing photos of the landing and one of the few that we will ever see that truely shows the work of man. Below is one of those photos. the top box shows the lander with the parachute, still traveling at several hundred kilometers and hour, and the bottom box shows the heat sheild that was ejected from the lander only moments before.

what is amazing about this picture is that there is no dust coud around the heat shield. leading experts to beleive that the picture is from the moments before the shield crashed into the surface of the red planet.

This is why we learn, why we dream, why we fly, take risks, discover. This is the future, We live in the future. We just need to embrace it all the time instead of only when the media chooses to show parts.
