Would there be a way to have guests start out with, say, 10 bread? Its a little annoying seeing them complain about starving even though they have nothing to lose by dying.

Meh, or they could be self-sufficient. I walked out of /spawn, built a tiny shelter, and killed mobs for food. Then I cooked it, and ate it, all by my lonesome. Believe it or not, it is possible for a noob to survive on his own, without going to a town or /g for help. (and that was before noobs got 600r to start with.)

I already suggested this, it was rejected, unfortunately.

if they start out with money, maybe we can get them to look at the webauction guide right away. showing them they can buy cheap food there.

New players should start with 5 bread and a stone sword.

Whats your goal of allowing new players to join?

    To increase server population.

Providing a minimal option to a kit could help promote players sticking and hopefully getting hooked to the server.

With that said I have over 2000 bread and its free to the first 400 new players to join :p

    PS:

nray - you expect 10-14 year olds who are new to minecraft and to shadecrest to be self-sufficient all the time?

haha, how old are you? :p Id be impressed if they (all) could spell self-sufficient, let alone be it.

ahh you've got me there. An 18 year old has much more experience and practice being self sufficient. Good point.

    1. Guests are just that; Guests. They can look around and get a feel for the server while they wait for their application to be accepted.
    2. Once accepted they start out with a bunch of money and if they vote they can get a bunch more. They can buy food and some seeds to start out.
    3. Not a bad idea, but it has been considered before and rejected.

That Should cover it; unless I missed something.
