I'm not sure if this is even possible, but I would like to suggest that it is made impossible to destroy blaze-spawners once we have updated to 1.0. I have no doubt in my mind that the day we update to 1.0, new nether and all, our stronghold will have been found, stripped of its resources along with its blaze spawners, and we will be out of luck. The only blaze rods on the server will be sold for outrageously high prices and our economy will sink even further into the hell that it became due to the renowned and well-known name of bockbeard The next time blaze rods will become available will be after the next reset of the nether, and how long has it been since the last last nether reset? So I propose that the blaze spawner block be made unbreakable. Unfortunately, this will also cause constant war in the nether with players trying to take control of the 1 or 2 total spawners. Due to this fact, I suggest now that we simply make the blaze spawners breakable as usual, but their blaze-rods are made only available at the admin shop. Everyone who reads this, please leave your opinion in the poll up top. I would also greatly appreciate if you gave me your more detailed opinion below.
I think the new nether should be generated without the blaze spawners. Some will create mob traps to get stacks apon stacks of blaze rods. While also causing lag. And there will be trolls that will destroy the spawners simply to anger people. Since blaze rods are needed for brewing stands and really useful potions there will be a high demand for them. You make a poll with a couple options.
I edited the poll with "other", leave your suggestions below if you do not agree with what I already have up there.
i went into 1.0 nether in single player and found like 3 spawners in the first stronghold i saw, i was in creative mode and did fly around though, i don't know if they can be made breakable but if they can that we be great, voted for admin store though just in case, its the safest way to go
Lol, in SMP I heard something funny happens with nether portals; You make a portal, and go into it, then you get to the nether, and go back into the portal that was generated when you got into the nether, and you end up in somebody elses portal, not the one you originally created;3 Little tip for you all, do not put your nether portal near unlocked chests!
Shhh!!! I'm actually fairly sure that's not true though. On the vanilla server, it just teleported you back to your own portal, or if you made another while in the nether, teleported you 8 times farther than how far you moved your portal. However, Max has already said that that will not be the case.
Nope, they only spawn with the assistance of a blaze spawner. If you destroy all of your nether stronghold's blaze spawners, no blaze.
I'm good with whatever. Just throwing Something out there, admins can add spawners in as needed... So it shouldn't be too big of an issue in my opinion.
The reason you may end up at another portal is because the portal looks for an active portal within a certain radius, and sends you to the closest portal in range, or if no portal is found, the game makes a portal close to the corresponding coordinates in the other world. for example: you make a portal in your house and the game finds no portal in range in the nether, so it makes one. you have "linked" portals, because they are at the same coordinates "or really close." Then your friend or enemy comes along and makes a portal. He activates the portal, and the game sees that there is an active portal in range in the nether, so it dose not make a portal but sends him to the one already there. he enters the portal he made in the real world, and comes out of the portal in the nether that you created when you entered your own portal. When he goes back through the portal to the real world, the game sees 2 active portals in range, so it sends him to the closest portal at the corresponding coordinates in the real world. meaning, he just entered your house. ^^hope this helps. if you want more details check out the mine craft wiki. As for the blaze rods, I have been thinking of this for quite a while and the fact I keep coming to is that we don't know till we know. the spawners may be left alone and people will be able to harvest them without lag, or they will all be destroyed, or they will cause a bunch of lag, or we can sell them in the admin shop for too much of too little, or.... or....ect. @ndvenckus1, thanks for making this post, as I have neglected to do so. However, I refuse to vote at the moment since I don't know which option will be the best since I don't know how people will play.
now the problem of custom nether portals being used as a means of "warping away", or they use it to get to nether and then actually warp away, arises. Maybe disable warping in nether too since it is suppose to be like hell, uneasily escape-able? Also, assuming steel and flint will still be illegal, i guess the admins can decide whether or not a nether portal is needed at a location?
^^ the plan is for us to be able to make our own portals without sending a bunch of requests to staff members to place them.
