that is not a grief, please look at guide to see what griefing is
stealing from unlocked chest is completely legal unfortunately
also type /he tool and hit the chest with a normal log to see who stole from you

 

Robbing somebody "aka looting" from unlocked chests or from finding items on the ground is allowed. You start out with enough rupies to purchase a locked chest and if you follow the instructions on how to obtain over 1000r once from voting, and how to get a minimum of 100r for voting on two other sites, "meaning 100r per site" you should be able to purchase three locked chests on your first day.

ps. the current reward is 300r per site for the first two because of our rank "last I checked." If our rank drops from people not voting then the 300r reward will go down some.
