tree tops and planting

I joined the shadecrest server less than a week ago, and have spent literally hours poring over the info on the forums, the rules, and the links that I find on them so that I know more about the server and its rules and players. one of the rules is to keep the server looking nice. to fix any damage to the wild you inflict so it looks nice, and if you see something someone forgot to fix, then fix it yourself. which includes but is not limited to; to not make an ugly square cobblestone structure, to harvest the FULL tree, and to replant after you are done.

I have found in my travels floating tree tops, which I finished chopping down for the lazy bum/s that only got the quick and easy wood, then I planted more trees in the area. later I come back to one of these areas that I worked on and found the entire area clear-cut with not a single tree replanted and several more floating tree tops. I understand that sometimes you are in a hurry and you may replant in a different area, but you still left that area of wild treeless, so try to replant the same area you harvested wood from.

I know this is a small problem, and the topic is about trees, but this issue is also about the players following the rules, cleaning up after themselves, and keeping the server looking nice so you can take pride in it.

To everybody who walk under floating trees without doing something and to those who don't replant I ask you this; Is it too much difficulty to replant or chop the entire tree down? if you see that it is a huge tree and you know you wont finish chopping it down then you should not even start. go find a small easy one that your lazy bum wont loose interest in before you finish. and if this last post angers you then you have no interest in following the rules and should be banned. that is my personal opinion, you are entitled to yours.

This server needs more players like you HIZ.

I have several grievances like this that I keep to myself because I know it wouldnt be worth the effort to bring them up when theres so much the admin staff is already working on.

If your looking for like-minded players and haven't joined a town I recommend looking here. Im interested in players who arnt looking to kiss ass to gain a moderator tag just to help tell people to use the right chat in global all day long. Im looking for players who want to build a great town and set the bar for the other towns/players on this server. Our town is on the PVP side for we would like to be dominate in all areas. We stress being appropriate and following all the server rules. Our players age range from 13-18 and 22-30. Also, dont complain/bitch to much for negative attitudes get annoying after a while. With THAT said I like leave it alone.

As for the plugin, that is good to know, and I am looking for a town on the pvp side, I just want to make an informed decision, so I am waiting.

For the record, this post is to help the admins by reminding people about the rules in hopes of them following them. I realize that what they do is time consuming and they only have so much time to get everything done, so they get the big and importaint done first. I also realize that I can't change everything and I can only do so much.

 

i for one enjoy going into huge trees and finding all the logs... it's fun, like a mini maze, with a risk of the leaves breaking under you... FALL DAMAGE!

i agree that people are too lazy, all in it for the quick resources... i did not get to have one of the largest stockpiles of resources by being quick, i got it by being effective.... methodical, and safe... now i play for fun when i have time...

Thanks for the welcome pyro5050. I hope I stick around as well, because I want a server that can accommodate my play style and let me experiment with other styles if I want.

I share the same enjoyment "sometimes" of chopping down big trees, then when you get to the bottom to collect you have close to half a stack of logs. I just don't have the time nor the desire to try to fix every tree I find. I have other things I want to do on this server and I don't want to spend all my time hunting down tree tops, so I will fix what I can when I can and just try to remind people if I see them breaking the rules. I can't do much, but I will do what I can. hope everybody else will as well ;D

 

I agree with Hizerion. Hizerion welcome to the server btw. Everytime I see a floating tree I wish I could fix them. But like you I have many projects underway and don't have enough time. I feel that everyone that leaves trees like this should read the rules again. I also see a lot of 1 x 1 towers. Theres one near my new peaceful home Why is that that people are to lazy to abide by the rules.

I hope this message knocks some sense into the people who do this.

Also, when I belonged to the town Hillside every time I logged on I found a tower of dirt or stairs made by raiders.

I've been on another server before, they had a plugin that chops whole trees down at once when using a golden axe. We liked that and chopping down huge trees wasn't a problem anymore.

 

I used to be on this server where when you cut down about probably 2 or 3 tree trunks, it automatically puts a sapling where the tree grew.

 

i dont see this in particular (i use my personal tree farm for wood), but u can he tool where the tree was to see who cut it down.

 

^He means you can use Hawk Tool to see who cut the tree down.

 

true. if you knew exactly where the tree was, or if you decided to try random places until you got a result "somewhat time consuming, but stick with it and you can point a finger at the offender." I just don't want to find a small place someone did not replant, get him into trouble, and it turns out he found an open place somewhere else and remembered "oh hey! I forgot to replant. guess I'l just do it here." Because when I harvest trees, I tend to wander, then go back the "same?" way I came from. so I may have missed a small patch. But I definitely make up for it with the number of trees I planted ;D.

I guess I can try to send them a small msg to remind them. If they ignore it and I still find trees they are responsible for...guess I'l cross that bridge if I come to it. hopefully I won't be bored enough to be the "tree hunter." That would be to sad :-\.

 

Chopping down big trees are fun in snowy areas big trees have a lot of wood and i got a full stack of logs once with just 1 tree! ;D

 

Yes, it's easy - but that way people will use it at all.
Plus, it's expensive - a golden axe holds how long? 10 chops? So 30 gold ingots for 10 huge trees.
You could even make it a VIP perk.

I would not want this plugin for this server. this server has a nice balance, and being able to chop down trees with one chop would disrupt that, and It would also take out some of the "mine" in minecraft. it would be fun on other servers to have it easy, but how easy do you want it? eventually you come to the plugin "too many items." which I like to use in single player to experiment, but would not want it either for this server.

Still, for the most part, this server looks good. It has its rough edges and has that lived in look, but that is to be expected. The whole purpose of these types of rules is to keep it nice, and so far enough people are following the rules and fixing the problems the others leave behind. Still, it would be nice if those troublemakers would leave their axes at home until they learn how to cut down the whole tree

But I had a thought, which is already known by everybody who has been on for a while "or at least should be". Most of the damage inflicted is probably from noobs who don't care, and don't read the forum or its rules enough to understand them. even if they are only on for a day or two, they probably cause most of the floating trees and damage instead of our regular players, although I imagine some of our regular players add to the problem, it is probably not near as much as I was first thinking.

So to every person who works hard to keep the server looking nice, THANK YOU. . And to all the other players that neglect to read the rules or follow them, get banned or quit. please and thank you, don't come again.

Ps. I am not for banning everybody, just the jerks who can't read lol. And thank you admins for making this a white listed server to keep most of the rift raft out.
