Maybe we should start advertising our server.

Well, I've created a promotional trailer for the creative server. The description does mention that we have a survival server.

I'm more than happy to do a let's play on survival, I just need to apply :S. I already have a small YouTube account, and am planning to do build tutorials for the creative side so it would run alongside quite nicely. However, it would be nice if I could get a few people guiding me through the new mechanics that you have added :D. Anyways I will go and apply now and perhaps start recording this weekend.

Completely forgot there was a guide *facewall* but I would still like for some others to be somewhat involved in the videos perhaps, message me if you have any ideas :D

Sorry for any offense taken from my comment. I was entirely hypocritical, and thusly, immature in every sense of the word. Sorry again.

In the terms of actually advertising or simply having a thread on reddit, I think it should be emphasized that all of the builds excluding the spawns are completely legitimate, and that the server is ACTUALLY hard, not just on the outside when you have to start out. Something that turns many away is that a new member sees somebody with "advanced" gear, and thinks that the people that were on the server originally got a head start, which is entirely untrue. This turns them away, because they fell that they wont be able to keep up with the others. (this is one reason MCMMO hurt the server, too many people were so far ahead that it was impossible to catch them without 100% of your time devoted to the task)

I don't think we need to advertise.

What we need is constructive feedback from people who quit our server versus other servers that are popular.

    1. Why did they quit?
    2. Invite people to join Shadecrest, test out our site and see what they like and don't like.
    3. The most important thing any business has are not clients, but advocates. Advocates are clients who go out, seek others and say "Use this business! It's great!!" these are what we need. We need to encourage the regulars on this server to go out and find others to play. People often update their Facebook status with "Hey I just got Minecraft..." and I tell them "hey you should try mc.shadecrest.com!" I don't get rupees for this. I don't get Max sending me an email saying "DUDE THX xoxo!" I do it because I think its a good server.

    4. What can Shadecrest do that makes us different AND interesting to people. I think the hardcore move was a good step, even if it alienated some people. Personally I would take these three changes to our server:
    a. Increase durability of diamond tools back to "vanilla" levels. Yes, this would bring back strip mines but I think with the hardcore mode that strip mining would be a LOT harder due to collapse and mob spawning.
    b. A 'newbie' vanilla world for peaceful, and pvp and mining worlds are hardcore. Lets the newbs join the server, they can mine in peaceful world. Build a house. Get iron, etc. When they are ready to jump to mining or pvp thats when the difficulty ramps up. We probably are losing newbie minecraft people because of this.
    c. At my office if I recruit someone to work at my company and they stay 3 months I get $5,000. Sweet, right? Like I wrote about the advocates before, maybe if you made it so if someone joins Shadecrest and enters the name of a VIP as the sponsor name then they get a reward (I would make it 3 Diamonds, everyone likes Diamonds). Oh, only available for VIPs. Why? Then encourages those vested in the server (i.e VIPs) to go out and recruit more newbies - and the VIP probably would help those newbs get established, etc. If the newbie is active 2 weeks later, you get your Diamonds.

i really like what Mercury_NYC said, besides the fact that only V.I.P's can do it. Why not let someone benefit if they bring friends only because they didn't pay the server? I think that system would work realy well if you got diamonds for inviting people, because it would give tons of initiative to everyone.

The problem is, Thomas, that I can see people abusing it. Invite a bunch of friends, they play a bit and the guy gets Diamonds. I mean, dude, really, $5 is too much for players to donate? Really? If it is, I will pay them for some chores around my condo for $5.

Well we know why people are leaving. All the people who liked the changes have been playing minecraft for a long time and have lots of time to play. the majority of us who joined since (around) the adventure update are having trouble with the extrahardmode. i make all my money mass farming and shopping and am forced to buy all my ore because i cannot turn a profit mining anymore. i have an idea posted HERE that may solve our problem, but it is a long shot.

I think the adds would actually do worse for shadecrest, because they would attract way more noobs who don't know what they're doing than experienced players specifically looking for extreme survival. if an experienced player wants a challenge, hes probably found it already (like Z_millla).

The majority of the server used to be members, but now its VIP and new members. the ratio has completely reversed and i feel lonley
