Mining World!!!!

Look max, everyone wants the mining world reset! I thought if no ones going to make a big deal about it then your never going to do it. If you read under the server guide thread and the mining world spoiler it clearly says mining world will be regenerated when ores start to run out. The reason you advertised that is the reason that some of us joined the server. Even if we worked something out where we had a schedule where the world would be reset. Also you also posted that you removed the ores from the pvp and peaceful because you don't want it to look bad. But now that you have the ores in the new pvp/peaceful people are mining there and it's going to become ugly looking.

Here's some schedule's that we could possibly work out

1. Every 5-6 months
2. Every 2 months
3. 10 or under on minestatus

I'm for the mining reset, but I'm ok with it not being reset also. I still find plenty of resources by strip mining, but it's nearly impossible to find anything by just cave mining.

 

I'm all for mining world to be reset for three core reasons.

1. It is a server feature. It is an advertised feature of the server and one of the core reasons why I liked this server. IMO making mining world separate from peaceful / PVP means that those lands won't become barren wastelands raped for resources like what is common on many other servers. Hence why I thought it was a cool feature of the server and one of the reasons why I chose to play on this server of many others out there.

2. Exploration. People play minecraft for many different reasons. One of those reasons is to explore new lands and experience new things. Some of those things that you can enjoy exploring on Mining world are A. Abandoned Mineshafts, B. Fortresses, C. Spelunking.

3. Resources. While there are people on this server who know how to find resources, for the average new player, I'd feel sorry for someone who would try to get a fresh start on this server. Mining world is so ridiculously raped that unless you set a waypoint at your house and your home in mine 20 minutes from spawn, you can't find anything.



Personally what I'd like to see out of this thread is that we collectively get buy in from Max on some kind of regular schedule people for mining world resets. 2-3 months I think is a reasonable reset time. 2 months might be too quickly, 3 months feels about right I'd say since it's "quarterly". With a consistent schedule people can "plan" for it, you don't have to make an announcement, and it would create a baseline the economy in regards to resources entering the system.

Anyhow... that's my 2cp.

 

Yeah we got an equivalent of a reset with those fresh halves. I don't remember the last time I made so much iron just building a farm.
I'm fine with leaving mining as it is. I want to see prices go up, and I try to help drive them up just by buying resources up. A mining reset now would just flood us with resources again.

 

I went to the mining world non to long ago and found diamonds after mining a few blocks, and another vein was about 10 blocks away form the first.

 

if u cant find diamond now. what makes u think ull find diamond when its reseted?

 

Maybe a land biome with minimal ores? I can't stand all the water, and imma shark...

 

I think we are being a little bit ignorant of the newbies.
I was lucky enought to join (I believe) after the most resent reset
but what about the newbies?
They've been kind of screwed in this, I mean honestly, you go to /warp mine and you see what it looks like

and thats a terrible impression to leave on a newbie

My biggest beef was exploration. Mining world ATM is not exactly fun to explore. It's fine if you are strip mining, but lame if you're trying to "find" resources through other means. I wanted new places to explore and 'find' ore. I knew you expanded the peaceful map, but was unaware until recently that those new areas had resources. I assume they also have caves, abandoned mines, and the like. Maybe I should go adventuring then.

Let's be clear, my biggest personal reason was exploration. I'm "finding" resources just fine because I'm in a remote area of mining world with my home set there and I have an efficient swastica mine. I'm finding resources, but the average new player doesn't have the luxury of setting their actual home with a VIP warp then sets their home in mining world.

I'm sure the people who have TONS of diamond and people who made their money through other means other than mining it and have bought up the diamond as a way of preserving their own money. Showing us screenshots of someone's diamond blocks does nothing other than rub that one player's wealth in our faces. That doesn't mean that EVERYONE has a lot of resources like those people or that resources are necessarily easy to acquire.

Any game that has any concept of an economy will always have money horders and people who HAVE a lot of resources. The larger your population and older your virtual economy the more likelyhood it is for few individuals over time to aquire large amounts of wealth. There are people in WoW who have MAX money, yet those individuals don't "break" the economy and there are still plenty of easy ways to make money and gather resources every day.

At the end of the day Max, you need to make a decision of whether you are designing this server for the masses or based on the wealth of few individuals. Instead of x-raying the server or looking at a few people's screenshots... why don't you instead do a poll of the average person's /money on the server? I'm sure you'll find that most people are not millionares. Furthermore, I'd like to echo the previous poster's comment about the impression it leaves upon newbies and expand upon it. If you were completely new to this server, would you find it easy to find a place to build a home and easy to make a fresh start, finding good resources in the state mining world is in. I guess as a new player I'd head to these new lands in PVE / PVP world with resources but I wouldn't go to mining world for sure. If you want this server to be welcoming and inviting for new players then you might want to continue to think openly about this.

 

So quick question then. When do you feel we would reset it then? Once those areas of PVE / PVP get stripped down to water like other servers? When mining world is more raped then it currently is?

Maybe you should get rid of the gold for cash shop. That would make people dump their "stash" for resources for economy dollars, then you'll get a clear picture of how much money people really have.

 

It is all about this:

1. Learn to mine in a efective way !
2.Learn to mine where other people dont mine!
3. Adjust your mining techniquest with server & Minecraft updates!


People who basicly know how to mine can allways find ores & the ones who dont know wont find anything If mining world would be reset it would be seen as the best way of geting resources for few days (to everyone) and after that the caves and such will be all explored again!
And more crying will follow

Well i did read it and thought to just say that to tell people who have been requesting this for months that web is full of information about how to mine

As far as I know ores from PvP and Peacfull will be removed as soon as Max finds fast way to do it( http://www.shadecrest.com/forum/index.php?topic=3101.15 Last mesage by Max) .

I also understand that people just want to explore as they find it fun ( so do I ). But i dont realy see point in exploring caves as you can find a lot of recourses overground (clay, wool etc ) or in houses / towns in peacfull. I <3 exploring towns and stealign building ideas.

Even if mining world would be reset every month or so, the chanse of exploring fresh caves will be lost in few days as 90% of server will run to mine for hours when they hear the anouncement of mining being reset.


So reseting mining world doesnt have enough positive efects compared to "f**king" the economy.

I atleast try to help new members on this server to mine (and at the same time secretly try to recuit them to town) and keep them invited to my home wich constantly changes to unexplored landscape.

So only answer is that try to help other people and live hapily

 

Because at the end of the day, this game isn't ALL about gathering resources. There are many different aspects of "fun" to this game, one of those is the "fun" of exploring new things. It's not all about finding resources, making money, and being as rich or resource rich as possible. I understand and respect that some people it's the most fun aspect of this game. For me and others, the most fun is having new things to enjoy. To me, it's about having A. a stable place I can call home while B. having places to explore and enjoy while gathering resources. Sitting in a quary or even my efficiently designed mines and efficiently mining resources sometimes can be fun, but it's not the end all be all of fun in the game.

Regardless of the outcome of this thread, I'll continue to enjoy my mine which is in a prosperous corner of mining world where no one goes because it's at bedrock in a remote region. I'll continue to enjoy my existence at my warp. I will continue to enjoy the projects I work on with my friends and my brother.

What I can tell you is that the MOST fun I've ever had on this server was when the nether was reset. I'm sure if mining world was reset, I and others would have equal if not more fun. Enough said.

In the words of a famous game studio, "Fun is king". Fun keeps people coming back. Fun keeps people enjoying the game and this server. The price trend of a diamond doesn't increase or decrease anyone's "fun factor" except those who already have tons of diamonds.

I for one would have more "fun" on this server if mining world was reset on some kind of regular schedule. It would be something to look forward to, be excited about, and have bursts of exploration every time it happened which would keep me engaged and interested in staying and enjoying my time here on Shadecrest. The very thought of this... the very idea... is again, why I decided to make this server home. After being here for many, many months I'm starting to realize that what I thought this place was about is not the way it actually is. The average price of resources in the virtual economy matters more (to some) than the fun of resetting parts of the world.

 

If ppl want fun maybe make an end world? that cost 100r to warp thete though

 

I do realize that there are many ores in the mining world, but people complain often that it needs to be reset.

 

Maybe for whenever the next time mining is reset, add to the rules not to bombard the spawn area with tnt?

 

I think that would just push the problem further back. I'm not saying ban tnt, just tell ppl to use it wisely, destroying the surface world isn't the best use, it just makes it harder to get around

 

No, most servers don't have a mining world. I guess that's something that makes this server kind of unique, but that rather emphasizes my points I made earlier of why I chose this server.

Well I've said my peace and made my points. It's not all about me or what I want. I will explore the new areas you've made. I'm probably also going to join a pvp town sometime soon. Most of PVP lands I have not explored, so that will give me a new sense of adventure. Vanilla is boring. I joined this server because I liked the "full" set of features it offers including all the plugins.
