I've had an idea for a while now, and I figured it's time to get other opinions on it. The plan takes a page out of old ShadeCrest, with spawn, pvp, and pve all sharing a single world. (LVX: You've already seen most of this, but I changed and added some stuff) Main points: Main world divided into two sections, with a 4 chunk (64 block) neutral zone as the border Two walls, one on each side in the neutral zone, 7 to 20 blocks high with multiple "border crossings" Player run "Duty Free" shops in the neutral zone near crossings possible, otherwise vegetation Square spawn region in the center with events, mall, tutorial, etc Persistent nether, divided like the main world, at 1/8th scale Nether neutral zone also scaled to 8 blocks wide Nether wall has various holes, and spans all vertical gaps The scaled down spawn region in the nether is a safe zone from mobs, and has some player shops Portal linking slightly tweaked to properly reflect scale The end remains pvp-only Please note: Build moves are unlikely to happen. You'd have to convince me that they would be a good thing.
It doesn't matter what you do with the map if there is nothing keeping players playing they will just plateau in resources and get bored again. I think the best way to keep it interesting is to force factions(not the plugin) and fights for pvp. Even in peaceful the most fun I had was the battle for "best" town against Forgotten Cliff. When PvP died so did the server's population. Problem with PvP nowadays is that you spend I guess with grinders an hour to get good gear and then if you die you lose it in ~30 seconds. Pre grinders it was hours to days to get the gear but because there were still PvP grudges fighting still happened. And waaaaay back when, when there were no enchants at all everyone just fought because everyone had diamonds , which are easier to get a lot of now with fortune, and towns fighting to be the best. Make a weekly /kit (not god gear like prot 2 diamond and sharp 3 sword) for PvP so that everyone has gear to fight at least once a week. Create a story line for everyone to play because minecraft alone gets boring after a week. Who cares if people want to hermit. That's not healthy when building a community. I still like Option 2 here: Except a central peaceful town would act as a safe zone where people can be complacent and get bored unless we give them something to do.
That's why this is not the only suggestion for the server, I'm just not mixing it in with the crap from the other thread. Resets, if done right, can bring a temporary boost to the server. In that time, players need to be hooked with other features of the server if we want to keep them around. I don't follow. What are you saying? No, the entire server population dropped, which included pvp's population. The rest of what you are saying is "Pvp did not evolve well with change". I guess you are right, and grinders are annoying as hell, but I'm not trying to solve that issue right now. Not making pvp kits. If anything, there can be an arena in spawn that sells basic gear for fighting. And create a story for players? Like RPG quests? How is that even remotely related to a map refresh? Suggest it in another thread if you want, but it'll be far too much work to deal with. So... Are you back to that plan where everyone must use towny? You are back to that plan! Nope.
I voted for starting a new map (instead of enlarging PvE), with the understanding that: Admins will realistically be willing to move existing cities or buildings, when requested and to a suitable biome.
I voted for new world cuzz i'm tired of the builds that are abandoned or are griefed and the owners didn't bother todo a modreq to have it fixed, sure there will be folks who want their stuff moved over(like me for 2 builds) but there just needs to be a clean up around the spawn areas, plus when 1.9 comes out they might add new stuff maybe not tho, also if we add newer plugins or whatever we'd want a fresh world anyways....also didn't we have a split world before and went back to the old way...lol...cya on the server..Skits
A few additions to the end sound interesting. Might make the end more useful than just somewhere to grind mcmmo.
Honestly the reason I loved playing on Shadecrest was the PVP aspect, being to gather up as a group and go siege and pillage Dragon Forge hands down the best times I've ever had on this server. If changes to PVP were made so that more people started doing it and activity participating I'm sure tons of people including myself would play again.
I know this is barely related, but have you had a look at the revised pvp rules on the wiki? Do you think they will help out at all? (Wiki link: http://wiki.shadecrest.com/index.php/Survival:_Rules#PvP)
I vote to bring back the original maps and make Forgotten Cliff the Server spawn, the events, and everything involving anything.
If we are going to make a new PVP/PVE map I would suggest that it is a total new map. No ported over inventory, buildings, etc. I know alot of people will be pissed about this but let me explain. If we just make a new map and port over everything what is the point? High level players with hardcore enchanted items and tons of resources still won't have any reason to come back. All they would have is a change of scenery. New players/ low level players won't want to join PVP because of all the high level player just own them from the start. Level the playing field for all players and start over, at least on a inventory/resources level, if not more. I own a house in PVP and PVE. I would go for one big map that is both but a few changes. I kinda like that wall idea but it could be just a marked half of the map labeled PVP Area. I would suggest no PVP in any town unless that town wants it and even then in a arena (there is a pluggin for that) if I am just doing some crafting some player comes up to me and kills me while I'm in a menu or whatever that is just annoying. There could be tournaments in the arena with prizes like rare items or whatever. And now for something completely different. With new maps and areas come new adventures and possibilities. What about adding in new pluggins? I mentioned that arena pluggin above. This can be a PVP or a Mob arena. There are also plugging out that that can enhance our mcmmo experience like adding quests, changing villagers, adding races and classes, or even replacing mcmmo with Heroes. Here are a few of them I found in a convenient list: http://www.planetminecraft.com/blog/top-20-rpg-plugins/ if there are any other out there that anyone else has found feel free to mention them. Hopefully some player like some of the suggestions I made. If not oh well. At least this should get people thinking in a positive direction to the future and growth of Shadecrest.
