On the topic of staff positions (more specifically Moderators,) I believe having two tiers of Moderator is a bit unnecessary. As the lower rank of Mod I often feel as though I've done an inadequate job when helping members in cases of grief and theft as I cannot do anything more than hand out punishments to the wrong doer(s) before having to wait for a senior member of staff to rollback the damage or return the stolen items. Some players get a good bit antsy and aggravated in such cases, which is understandable in ones of extensive grief and having to leave without repairing any of the damage makes me feel like I've done a half-assed job.

At the very least, I think the lower rank Moderator position should be cut and any player that is trusted enough to have the title should be trusted with the permissions that come with it.

    Crime/Punishment:
I agree that we do need a more structured system so that we don't have players getting more severe punishments than others for similar crimes.

    The Rule Page:
I believe this needs to be updated a bit. We should remove the "Stealing is allowed" rule completely until the end of the map transition period rather than posting a "Stealing is a no no" rule in bold above it. The rest of the page should be gone through for further revisions so this: Do not create any gray areas in the rules, is more difficult for players to accomplish.

    Ban Appeal Post:
Agreed. If you have nothing to do with the ban (i.e. any information in way of evidence to the player in questions guilt or lack thereof) you should not be posting in the appeal. Even if you're their friend and want to vouch for the overall of goodness of the player, if you weren't present at the time of their ban and have no new or relevant information to put forth you should stay your fingers. That means don't post.

Mine as well join in myself.

Why even have a gray area rule? At this point almost 3 years why don't we just have everything covered? We have people in staff that hardly play like Sharqman and Waterpower. Why aren't they managing the forums and wiki/rules? Another thing to the awasted thing. He pretty much quit the internet after speaking to him. Putting in 5 hours+ everyday for a couple years and get that ripped quicker then a trip to the toilet is pretty sad. By an equal none the less. Point being a major restructure and reevaluation of everyone could be worth while.

If i recall correctly last time this was an issue no staff members lost their rank even though there were a few who contributed to the trolling on the other server. (I think that is correct). Aside from that, people who posted an unban appeal got unbanned or it was reduced to a day or two.
I'm not saying that they should of not seen this coming because Max thought it was an issue last time. I just stating the consequences this time are much more extreme than last.

The reason they are worse is because it's already happened, I can understand the month ban, or possible putting the staff on probation for a period, but I do not feel it was nessasary for some of the most dedicated staff on the server to be stripped of their rank and banned

By nature, you can't just "cover" all the gray areas. You guys are asking that we simplify and shorten the rules, but also that we cover each and every possible scenario? The gray area rule is an absolute must. The point is to make it obvious that whether something is directly listed in the rules or not, you can still be banned for it.

This is true but aslong as I've been here never in the rules(even after we simplified them) has there been a rule saying what you do on one server gets you banned on another?

Like I just said, something doesn't necessarily need to be in the rules. Sometimes you just need to use common sense. The rules aren't meant to suggest "these are absolutely the only offenses that could possibly get you punished on the survival server." If you use good judgement in everything you do, you should be able to get by just fine.

As situations come they should be added to the rules. Plus this goes back to the shadecrests influence should only be on shadecrest :/. Think of it like this in the U.S. where a majority of your server base lives laws restrict things not allow them. If it's not restricted by law it's legal. It's not everything is illegal unless made legal. Everything is legal unless stated otherwise. Plus your way enables easy rule making to aim to get rid of someone. Which if people like Stalin and Mussolini have shown that type of power leads to corruption very easily.

What I'm saying is to have a happy medium. Say that anything that isn't listed as illegal as legal, but we might ban you for something that isn't a rule if you do something that is bad and/or causes somebody else aggravation.

First of all there is no clear punishing system on this server if there is a trial mod the rest of the staff should train him/her the proper rules commands and punishments for modship staff members should never ban other staff members there should be a vote 2/3 majority within the staff to punish another staff member. There should be a three strike system with griefing each strike has a two day bann the last strike a perma ban. I was sick when this incident occurred with the huge load of banns. Vetrans should be respected and be the people to go to not be banned if they do 1 thing wrong. I feel a true loss with this community and if it doesn't shape up and straighten up this matter you may as well be seeing me no more. As I write this I feel a great pain deep in my heart I have spent a good 2months here and I see the potential sometimes playing 8+ he's a day but if there is no clear punishing system and people are still getting randomly banned I will leave this server even after my hard work building my town and helping around the community. You may be seeing me write a goodbye thread tomorrow. This issue has made a big hit to shadecrest and I don't want to be here to see shadecrest go down

I'm sorry about some of the bans that took place. I was put on the spot and awasted might have taken it the wrong way. But I am not sure why he was banned?

I'm fairly sure that the a grief is judged on the severity of the grief. So, with a strike system someone who griefed 10 blocks and someone who griefed 100 get the same punishment of 2 days for first offenders.

Dont mean to sound like a dick, but it does seem the server is the one who should be banned for giving the server bad rep

This is a minecraft server... Sure, maybe some broad concepts are shared between the workings of a real life government and a minecraft server, but you can't keep relating the two like they're one in the same. We can't have thousands of rules that go into the specifics of every possible situation (which is what you're essentially suggesting, comparing our rules to the US legal system).

Also, regarding SC's influence extending only to SC, I very much disagree. If you harass someone on SC, why are you punished? You're punished because that harassment demonstrated your ill character, and that's something we don't want on the server. Now, if this same level of harassment occurs elsewhere, you're demonstrating the same ill character as before, whether you caused harm to one of our members specifically or not (which, in this case, you did). Doing it on another server doesn't make it any better. That's exactly why we used to check players' previous bans when looking over applications. It gives insight on what kind of people they are before they even join the server.

Sorry if this is incoherent. I'm just trying to jumble my ideas together off only a couple hours of sleep. I think I got my point across, though.

That's exactly what I'm trying to get across.

I think it's fair that a staff member can't ban someone of equal or greater rank, unless they're posing an immediate threat to the server. As far as the griefing rules go, like ralk said, we can't just lay down a universal system for something like this. Some griefs are extremely small, and only necessitate a warning. Others are 200+ blocks, or occur in various places across the server, and require a more severe punishment.

I think this all points to the same idea. We can't just have our rules and systems set in stone, because players' actions aren't set in stone. The regulations we have set in place need to be dynamic to accommodate for the different scenarios we come across.
