Yeah Erik, how am i suppose to describe the flagellates living in the mesopelagic zone around my archipelago?
NO NO NO NO NO NO BAAAAAAD! (halfa-swear)(bad filtered to nothing word)(other halfa-swear) -> (swear) And then avoiding the filter is trivial. Code: flagellates -> flag ellates -> flag | currenty should work mesopelagic | sorry archipelago | whoops
ttttaaaa Edit: No really, its funny and all, but it needs to be changed back. Just because the players from 3 years ago are fine with cussing doesn't mean the NEW young people are. To this, just have (Firsthalfofword)(Anotherword)(Secondhalfofword) censored. It'll be tedious, but its better than the alternative.
There are always going to be ways to circumvent the swear filter, while I agree with the extra lines of code to check to see if it's a part of another word; we could always go with the old "Getting staff and players to moderate chat".
.................... Really? 'half' was not meant to be explicitly half of a word. The sheer number of combinations that would have to be filtered is unmanageable, and would likely lag the server while trying to process all of the different filters! Lets say we only have 2 bad words, BLOCK and ****. The filter would have to have (for just filtering BLOCK containing ****) More filters and/or more words would increase this exponentially. So...
I completely understand. If you refuse to have a way to censor chat, then make it so that the rules are the way pyro used to do it. Kick #1--->Kick #2--->1 Hour Ban---->1 Day Ban. The sheer amount of inappropriate words in public chats is unacceptable, and its honestly been bugging me since the asterisks changed to "fake" words.
A thread which was talking about how bad language was used in the server, which then turned into a discussion about how better the censer said language? Sounds like a perfectly reasonable and logical progression of topic to me. Although yes, the original purpose of the thread is now dealt with/lost.
Mabey someone start a new thread, and put forth all the ideas, just so more people can get in on the discussion. Sent from Sleberts phone
