Town Chats

This is a perfect example of the laziness I am annoyed with here on shadecrest, everyone is too lazy to learn a few commands or something thinking something is complicated until they actually bother to learn it and realizd it is actually simple.

 

Unless I'm misreading this, no. The suggestion was hero chat channels for towns. Exactly what new command would anyone have to learn for this? /ch join <channel> (maybe <password>)? This should already be known to anyone who has read the guide.

The option we have settled with does require everyone to learn commands. I had to look up on the mcmmo wiki how to create them, and other commands for them.

Pros of hero chat:

• Familiar plugin
• Can still talk in other channels while in town chat
• Can be in more than one channel (eg. town and nation)

Pros of party chat:

• Can view who is in the party (online and offline)
• Kick people from the channel who shouldn't be there
• Requires no special permissions
• Easy chat creation
• Invite people to parties
• No friendly fire

Cons for each are just the pros for the other.

If someone decides they want to snoop on your hero chat channel, how do you tell that they're in it if they never talk in it? If you do know they're in it, you need a mod or admin to kick them from it. Even then, you can't stop them rejoining.

TL;DR
Using a plugin that most have used for months or even years is not more complicated than using a plugin (feature) that the majority of people are unfamiliar with.

Please tell me if I misinterpreted what you said, but it really seems you are making reference to the choice of Towny over World Guard, instead of the actual discussion of hero chat vs party chat.

 

I think he was saying people are too lazy to learn how to use party chat, not herochat. Although most players are too lazy to learn anything.

 

None of us are saying its too complicated for us to learn. I'm pretty sure all the long time players have been familiar with the party chat commands for quite some time. We're saying, new players are already being required to learn herochat, and having to learn the differences of a completely separate chat system just to talk in town chat seemed kind of ridiculous. The only advantage to party chat is that its less of a work load on staff members and town leaders, which is why I changed my mind.

This is the other excuse I'm very annoyed and hear a lot on shadecrest. God forbid that people would have to put in a small amount of effort to learn anything and this kind of thinking is what shuts down most good suggestions and ideas.
People can also speak for themselves and don't need everyone else to say they are unable to learn new things.

And ndv, for the average player it's just /party chat name instead of /ch join chat name, and then /p instead of /chatname

 

How are you annoyed with laziness when you don't even play...

I don't see how that is laziness at all, I just find FTB more fun than Survival at the moment.
And the only real reason I would have returned before getting bored of FTB would be a WG town system but why would anyone stop being lazy to use the system? That would take effort.

If you can't see anything in the party chat including your own chat, type /party q (happened to pieman twice in 5 minutes)

You also cannot join parties by name, you have to go /party join <player name>
