Since football is winning 8-7 I am going to ban anyone who uses the word soccer. <- Not knowing this rule is no excuse to break it.

Soccer isn't a random word you poop. When the sport was in it's early days (in Britain) the upper echelons of the sport used the term 'soccer'. Yes, the British invented the word we now detest (funny huh?). When the sport began taking off in the lower classes (a couple of decades or so after the upper class people began playing it) the term 'football' emerged. Because of the overwhelming majority using the term 'football' for the game it began to be the dominating word/name for the sport.

A little more background on the word soccer to prove it isn't random. When the sport was invented as we know it today (at least the major part of it), a group termed the game 'association football' so as to distinguish it from other football-like games that existed in those days such as 'rugby football'. Now with people being lazy as hell, of course they had to come up with a nickname for the sport; 'rugby football' became 'rugger' or 'rugby', and 'association football' bacame 'asoccer', which soon became just plain old 'soccer'.

The reason that 'muricans use the word soccer is because they had their own sport 'football' around at the time when football became the most common term. Football as a term became dominant around 1881, and 'American football' began in 1869 where it was played with a round ball and was very similar to football. Professional American football did not surface until around 1892.

So, a few points to draw from this:

    • British people invented the word you use, we may be simple minded, but at least we aren't lazy ;).
    • Football>American football, although I do love the game and watch it myself (considering playing it next year at uni, but I doubt the standards are that great).
    • You poops stole our game and made it (as Pie rightly said) hand egg.
    • Reading a little can avoid needless discussions.
    • Football>American football.
    • History can be fun.
    • A360P for president.
In conclusion, we should get a filter on the server that changes 'soccer' into 'football' and Americans should start calling 'American football' 'American soccer' since they invented the game based off 'soccer', not the more sensible 'football.

Only because of the amount of "padding" you Americans wear during your games means that it's nigh on impossible to even get a paper cut during it.

There are plenty of broken ribs, conclusions, and fractured bones, the padding is so players don't need to hold back as much or there would be a lot of deaths.

Football haaappens to be arguably the most concussion heavy sport out there. Broken bones after tackles aren't uncommon either.

    So basically...

Deaths in boxing were actually increased with the introduction of the modern boxing glove; because people weren't holding back as much with their punches.
