I feel that we need more survival traffic.

When I first started obsidian generators were illegal :/ I think it would be better if they are illegal, that way lava lakes aren't ignored as easily.
We can generalize a lot of the rules and then add specifics in a spoiler of some sort if that shortens the length.

 

Ah, well I don't want to be stepping on anyone's toes by putting myself forward to help make a new spawn :S.

 

If he's not doing it go for it, maybe a new world can be made on creative, or the SG server. feel free to take over the thread, don't forget to read the suggestions there

[1] Spawn needs to change. This is one of the main reasons people get screwed. They get out of the wool room, and have NO idea where to go. There needs to be something that is like "Hey, if you walk through this archway, you'll go to the peaceful world!" as opposed to a sign that they aren't going to read. The spawn looks nice, I can't deny it, but what it NEEDS to be, is a pretty looking place, without any way to get lost w/o enderpearls or whatever, and a CLEAR route to different places. My point in this is that this is the best idea i've though up, NOT what I think we should do.
[2] I also feel there needs to be an added benefit for joining a town as well. Not like getting paid, but something along the lines of an in town area for something that you can't have/do elsewhere(I've not thought as far as to what this could be).
[3] We need a plugin that changes the game. Not so much that is changes the dynamic of the game (EHM) but that it adds more goals (McMMO). I'm looking into this as you read, and I'll edit with a link and ideas when I find a few good ones.

We should gather a team this time instead of relying on the ideas of an individual. While the current spawn is great, it is too plain. With the introduction of a team of people, more ideas can merge into something more seamless

 

I can easily gather a team for this, I finish exams on the 21st and then i'll be a free ranger for the remainder of the week (obviously won't be spending all my time on MC, but having been recently promoted I need to put in some hardcore man hours to show my appreciation) and could blitz out a general idea for spawn quite easily. I guess it is just down to max really when/where/if this is going to happen and also down to cerb

One more idea from me. I suggested this when we reset the map and it was unpopular, but I might as well bright it up again while we are all throwing out ideas. We should turn the white list back on. I'll elaborate.

When someone joins a minecraft server for the first time, what is the first thing they want to do? Read rules? No. They want to play minecraft. How do we allow people to play minecraft the second they join the server? Move all of the rules to forums and have a nice application that tests them on comprehension of said rules before they are even allowed to play. This was the format when I joined shadecrest and I was impressed with the server before ever logging in. When I logged in I already knew all the rules and I knew how the server was laid out. I was greeted by other players and I immediately knew how to get to the wilderness and start my adventure.

I understand that a whitelisted server has fewer people joining. However, this doesn't really matter if all of the people joining are leaving just as fast. I feel we don't need a huge surge of new players on survival, I think we need to start getting more educated players who are interested in sticking around for a while, who want to be part of a community, and who really want to make the server a nice place.

Perhaps times have changed and the whitelist wouldn't work as good as it did in the past, but at the very least I would like to see this discussed more.

 

another idea is we could just ask the guests what they would like to see in spawn, they will be using it the most likely, and about the build team, i would love to help but im only builder I, what requirements would be in place?

 

Spawn ideas:
Theme: cabin village
-spawn is in mining world; paths leading out so that you can go and mining
-spawn building is the portal building, or the portal building is right in front of the spawn building
-Coliseum is a more roman type theme, like this, with the middle being semi-flat, leave the fancy terrain to the PvP games arena
-all the basic buildings we currently have (casino/auction house, web auction building if we're planning to get that back, replace bank with a shopping area since the bank has no use, federal building, museum, and library)

 

Let's wait to see if we are given the go ahead first :S. If I am told to go for it, there will be a forum thread to apply and give ideas on the creative board.

 

and i agree with you Z, some servers ive joined in the past had all the rules in the game, and the room u spawned in lead to a room where u start a test using signs, im not sure if thats how normal whit list server is.

 

White list is you can't get on the server until added.
Gray list is you can get on the server, but you don't have permissions until you are added.

In our specific situation, there will be an app for both, and I think whitelist will lead to a better/more mature player base. It would knock out the griefers and chat trolls.

 

I feel that some people might be bad-mouthing the server. We have a bunch of noobs saying they were from planet minecraft and that they knew the owners and if people see this happening they might think less of the server. Just my thoughts.

 

Armor Abilities
^This one is neat You can add abilities to armor, and ihaxorz can change what one uses to add abilities. THIS could be a use for things that aren't used in game that are sold in auctions. The really crazy OP abilities could require 4 dragon eggs, or something to that effect.

PS. I adore survival and would love to have an excuse to get on the survival server more.
