How do I make a LAN game?

I have my laptop hooked up to my PC router and they both run minecraft on shadecrest, but cant 'find' the lan server. Anyone know anything that can help?

I know how to open to LAN, but it just wont show up on the other computer.

Our IP's are the same, and the firewalls are off. I dont understand

Your IP can't be the same as another device.

To get your computer's IP:
Start Menu -> Run (I think this still works on 7, I'm on XP)
Type "cmd" in the Run box
In the Command Window, type "ipconfig"
