I have noticed that alot of the guests have been asking if anyone had a job they would like done. As the people who do need work to be done are often not online at the moment, the guests miss out. Would it be possible to have a job board placed somewhere in spawn or online where players can advertise out a place for a job and its wages?
That'd bbe nice. Or even just a job board on the forums. Cause I'm just a noob that likes to do stuff for little pay.
Remember the old marketplace back when players could purchase plots for their own shops? What if an area were set aside in a similar fashion where players could set up a "jobs board" of their own? People could slam a sign down on another player's board with a job request, they could include a proposed payment which could be negotiated in private later or something like that. As for the problem of people just snatching signs... guess you'd just have to leave a margin of trust. Really... an area wouldn't even need to be set aside for this. It'd just make it easier to locate individual job boards in game if they were in one place. A player could just do all this privately. Make their home public or set up with a warp... advertise when possible.
I know. What ridiculous concept right? But what else can you do? If you set plots up like they were during the "player shop marketplace days" where only the plot owner could... wait... You could always turn the permission to build on and the perm to destroy off on individual plots in that case. Personally, I think it should be left to the individual player to set something up themself. Hell... I could use a project. I could set up an area somewhere in peaceful to get the proverbial ball rolling and have my warp relocated to at some time in the future.
It's too funny that I had planned to incorporate a very similar "job board" into the market I was working on a bit back, but later scrapped the idea due to never getting around to finalizing the logistics. I would support the idea however, I think the more things that are available for players in-game the better, it means that newer players can be exposed to more content at first glance, and possibly therefore be more inclined to stick around. Maybe the help needed board here on the forums could benefit more from something like this as well; simple jobs not worth mentioning on the forums could be added to the in-game board, and more complex jobs that are on the forums can be advertised there. One of the things the board could be useful for in addition to being a job board, it could also serve for players with large material requests; that is to say a request someone puts on the board for a large amount of resources that normal shops don’t provide. Anyways, just thought I'd drop some of the old ideas here.
Hey what ever happened with that mall of yours? Last time I saw it it was looking great. Still working on it?
Yeah, a lot has been done since I've updated its thread last, but the main structure is now done. Unfortunately progress has been slow as of late due to a few other things going on right now; but I still work on it when I have the time. To keep this post from being a complete self-advertisement, here are some other key points that maybe should be addressed if anyone should want to make something like this work: Use, convenience, and publicity Use: Is there a pattern someone should follow when they put a job up there? First sign: job name, second sign: requester name, location, and payment? It would be hard to explain a job in just one sign. Convenience: I try and keep the KISS principle in mind when I work on convenience, don't over complicate things so that a guest wouldn't understand it. Publicity: If people have to go out of their way to find out about the board, then very few will actually use it. I would put it somewhere it's common for players to already visit (Would also help in convenience) Maybe I'm just reiterating the things that you (whoever wants to work on it) already know, or maybe I just over complicate things too much xD Anyways, as I said before, I'd be interested in seeing this in-game.
I'm going to start working on a this when I get home from work today. Come up with some sign format concepts as well as a nice looking board and building to put it in. My brain's still operating on "coast" right now as it's still early so I'll post some ideas I concoct as the day progresses at a later time. Sticking a dryer sheet in your pocket to ward off mosquitoes is not as effective as some make it out to be... the bastards.
I like that. Can easily be applied to the four lines allotted on signs where two signs will be needed minimum.
If it's a small project your going to need someone in game and most likely get a friend or use /ch tr and if it is a big project then you're going to make a forum post in help wanted. If you want we can add the section the the guide about this.
